Music Classes---Grades 3,4, and 5

We are having a great time playing Native American songs for Thanksgiving.  Students  used Orff instruments as well as some non-pitched percussion instruments to apply their understanding of rhythm patterns, steady beat, and notes to accompany our songs.  5th graders had the opportunity to create and compose their own patterns for accompaniment.

Our Elementary Chorus is hard at work on music for our Christmas performances.  Don't forget that the TK-5 concert is on December 11 at 9:00 am in the Raleigh campus gym.  Chorus students should wear khaki (neutral) bottoms and Christmas colored tops.  Red, green, and white work best.  Our "Christmas Tour" 2016 will be December 16 when we will travel to Sunrise of Raleigh and Independence Village of Olde Raleigh assisted living facilities.  We will plan a special lunch at Sweet Tomatoes in Cary following the performances.  Expect permission forms and details regarding lunch to be available after Thanksgiving.

Vocal Ensemble (6th grade)

6th Grade Vocal Ensemble is preparing for our Christmas performances.  We will participate in the Crossroads concert which will feature Vocal Ensembles, Bands, and Strings for 6th -12th grade participants. The concert begins at 7:00 pm in the Crossroads Activity Building Gym.  December 10th we will travel to downtown Raleigh and the State Capitol Building to sing for Christmas Open House in the Rotunda of the Capitol.  Performance time is 11:00 am.  A lunch stop at the food court at Cary Towne Center will follow the performance. Please plan to join us for these events.  Expect permission forms to be available after Thanksgiving.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

2nd Quarter - Technology

3rd Keyboarding
The students are learning the top and bottom rows of the letters using Typing Agent.  The students are learning how to sit properly at the computer and demonstrate good typing posture.  The students with the best keyboarding posture get to go to the "Reward Bag".   If students want additional practice the log in information to Typing Agent is located in their planners.  Keep typing 3rd grade!

4th Technology
The students are reviewing their typing skills from 3rd grade the first half of the year.  They are learning  file management and the features in Pages such as formatting text/pictures and editing basics.  They will use these features in upcoming class reports/projects.  Also, the students will learn some digital citizenship this quarter.

5th Technology
The 5th grade just finished reviewing all the features in Pages.  They will do a Thanksgiving activity that incorporates the basic and advanced features in Pages.  Also, 5th grade is working in Keynote  learning animation, transition, and sound effects to use in their Severe Weather projects.

6th Multimedia
The 6th grade has been busy creating all types of publications.  They have made an iPhoto book (All About Me), Podcast (an event in history/bible they were studying), and book trailers (books they have read within 2 years).  The students have learned several different software applications such as Photo Booth, iPhoto, Garageband, iMovie, and Animoto.  The students have created wonderful projects!
